the project

The SENIOR project aims to provide a unique legal take on the emergence of norms and concepts in the national, regional and international legal systems that are likely to tackle the specific difficulties arising from migrants’ pension rights, fully in line with the United Nations’ sustainable development goal 1.3.

Research Topics

Identifying Ageing Migrants’ Vulnerabilities

This research axis addresses the diversity of domestic, regional and international concepts and practices related to ageing migrants’ vulnerabilities. The various research activities carried out in this field aim to create a genuine exchange between systems and between methods to address the specific vulnerabilities of this category of the population.

Extending Pension Rights for Migrants

The aim of this research axis is to examine, on the basis of domestic, regional and international legal systems, particularly successful legal mechanisms and practices able to promote the extension of pension rights to migrants. These mechanisms, which are still insufficiently investigated by legal doctrine, could support the elaboration of new public policies, in the framework of current legislative reform.

Coordinating and Harmonizing Legal Systems for Ageing Migrants

The last part of the project will examine cross-fertilizations of pension rights systems, leading them to evolve and possibly extend their scope to take into account the specificity of migrants. The aim of the legal research conducted on this topic is to propose an “ordered pluralism” in pension rights, aiming to link, through multiple interactions, legal ensembles, opening the way to greater cooperation and harmonization between legal systems.
